The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)

We refer to Jesus as the Son of God or the Second Person of the Trinity and so acknowledge his divinity.  We celebrate his birth and sing songs about his humble origins in Bethlehem and so acknowledge his humanity.  But when we attempt to put these two things together, divinity and humanity, things get a bit more complex.  How can God become human and still remain God?  How can the Almighty become vulnerable and still maintain his power? At best it is a holy mystery.  At worst it is a stumbling block to faith.  Yet in this paradox of the Incarnation lies the essence of our faith.  God has chosen to pursue relationship with us by becoming one of us and inviting us to follow him on a path that leads to our transformation.
