The Great Commandment, to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as ourselves, is the heart of Jesus teaching.  But as we all know, understanding this commandment and obeying it are two very different things.  Loving is not so much a command we hear and strive to keep; it is more of a state of being into which we grow.  It is the gradual process of taking on the mind of Christ; or as St Paul puts it “we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” (Eph 4:15).  Paul spends a good bit of energy in reflecting on this process and in his letters to fellow followers of Christ and writes some of the most beautiful and thoughtful descriptions of love that are found in the Bible.  One of those descriptions is in the 12th chapter of Romans.  In this six-week sermon series we will unpack this great text and explore what it looks like to take on the mind of Christ and grow in his love.
