St Paul’s letter to the Philippian church is a testimony to a thriving relationship between pastor and congregation.  It is filled with examples of mutual love, partnership in ministry, warm encouragement, and honest admonition.  Paul writes the book from prison toward the end of his life and thus dedicates himself to making sure to mention what he thinks are the most important things. In this way it is a kind of final word.  But it is also a word about the way a congregation continues to press on irrespective of who the pastor might be.   It is, in a word, a great book to study if a congregation happens to be in the process of looking for a pastor.
