The Homework Club is a Community Outreach Program that provides one-on-one tutoring to children mainly in grades 1 through 6, followed by a free dinner for the students, their families, and the tutors. The program takes place Tuesday evenings November through May from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Students in the program primarily attend Maywood Hills Elementary School but students from other area schools, including junior and senior high schools, can register on a space-available basis. The Homework Club is a non-religious program and is open to families of all faiths.

When students arrive they are given a snack before sitting down with a trained volunteer for an hour of tutoring. Homework help is the primary focus, but other learning activities are also available. Following the homework session, a nutritious meal is served to all participants and their families. This program allows the family, as well as the student and tutor, to bond in the educational process.

To register your child in this program, please contact the Church office at (425) 486-6388. You are also welcome to stop by any Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. to see if this program will work for your family.

The Homework Club does not meet during school breaks, including summer break.

All children and volunteers are welcome.

Some have employment, but many do not have the skills for job opportunities available in this depressed economy. Emmanuel is able to provide an ongoing collection of “wish list” items as well as donations for bus passes for Tent City 4.

Working Women’s Wardrobe is the program of the YWCA that provides women of the area with clothing for success in job interviews and dressing for success once they have the job. The Everett Gospel Mission collects clothing for men that outfits them for job interviews and provides a beginning wardrobe to help insure their success. Emmanuel accepts and distributes donations of gently used clothing for these two charities.

Presbyterian Coffee Project coffee, tea and chocolate are available for sale in Emmanuel’s Narthex. This two-fold mission reaches out to the world-wide community of small-scale farmers as well as providing money for special mission projects of Emmanuel. Presbyterian Coffee Project is a part of Equal Exchange Interfaith Program: joining faith and fair trade whose mission is to build long-term trade partnerships that are economically just and environmentally sound, to foster mutually beneficial relations between farmers and consumers and to demonstrate, through our success, the viability of worker co-operatives and Fair Trade. Farmers earn a fair price for their products, have access to affordable credit, and can invest in education, health care, and sustainable agriculture, enabling them to build a better future for their families. The products are organically grown which also benefits our environment.
