The Pastoral Transition Process at Emmanuel

Minimize

Pastor Steve Knowles, our pastor of the last 15 years, moved away on September 18th, 2011, to be closer to family in California.

We are very sorry to see him go, but wish him and his family well.

Pastor Steve urges those at Emmanuel to stay with the church through this time of transition.

The Pastor Nominating Committee is composed of Larry G., Alida M., Jim C., Lori M., Dave F., Steve M., and Linda A.

The members and friends of Emmanuel were asked to participate in the Transforming Church Index survey.  -- 12/4/2011

The survey is to help identify areas of strength and areas for improvement within the church.

The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) and Session participated in a teleconference with TAG, the organization that conducted the Transforming Church Index survey.   -- 1/14/2012

The PNC and Session were briefed on the church's strengths and areas to improve. The next step for the PNC is to go through training on how to conduct small group sessions to hear about member's thoughts on the church, their wishes for the church and what they value about the church.

A synopsis of the remainder of the process as of 1/14/2012:

  • The interim pastor will conduct training for the PNC on appreciative inquiry interviews of congregants as well as neighborhood exegis and local demographics research.
  • The PNC will then conduct the appreciative inquiry interviews and local demographics research.
  • The PNC will then use that information to draft the Church Information Form (CIF), and present that to the Session for approval.
  • After approval, the CIF will be submitted Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of North Puget Sound for review. Once approved there, it will "go live" on the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s website.
  • Pastor Information Forms (PIF)'s from potential candidates will flow through the Committee on Ministry to the PNC. This part of the process will be strictly confidential. Once the PNC has found a candidate they will present to the congregation for approval.
