St Paul was a great maker of lists and in his letter to the Galatians he identifies a list of virtues that give evidence of God being at work in our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. These virtues are not commodities we can purchase or possess, nor are they supplements to our diet that we can ingest. They are the fruit born of God’s transforming work in our lives. We know them when we have them and find ourselves growing in love of God and love of neighbor. In his relationship with the Church of Philippi, St Paul gives witness to the presence of these virtues in their life together. As we look at that letter this summer we’ll explore what a community of faith looks like when it is bearing this fruit of the Spirit.
