As St. Valentine’s Day approaches our field of vision becomes crowded with cupids and red hearts.  All talk is of love and the gods of consumerism team up with Eros to advise us on the things we can buy that will best demonstrate the overwhelming passion we feel for our beloved.  Yet when the New Testament writers describe expressions of true love, they rarely speak merely in terms of intense passions and lavish gifts.  They equate love with actions.  Genuine love, steadfast love, sustaining love is all about concrete extensions of ourselves for the sake of our beloved.  Over these four weeks our Sunday sermons will explore four classic love passages in the New Testament, all of which invite us to contemplate the breadth and length and height and depth of God’s love, and so allow that Divine love to give birth to the love we show one another.
