To know God is thus to honor God and to obey God's will; it is not simply to have
knowledge of the facts about God, but to enter into a personal relationship. . .
To know him is to be like him.—
Morna Hooker

“[Spiritual formation] is about becoming so single – mindedly focused on following
Christ that one can't help thinking like Christ, acting like Christ, feeling like Christ.”
Evan Howard

Prelude

Welcome and Announcements

Psalm 27:4
One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple.

Responsive Call to Worship
Psalm 100: 1, 2, 5
Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come into God's presence with singing.
For the Lord is a gracious God, whose mercy is everlasting;
And whose faithfulness endures to all generations.

*Opening Songs:

Build My Life
Worthy of ev'ry song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of ev'ry breath we could ever breathe
We live for You

Jesus the name above ev'ry other name
Jesus the only one who could ever save
Worthy of ev'ry breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
We live for You

Holy there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder and show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken (2x)

Good to Me
I cry out for your hand of mercy to heal me.
I am weak, I need your love to free me.
Oh Lord, my rock, my strength in weakness.
Come rescue me, oh Lord.
You are my hope, your promise never fails me.
And my desire is to follow you forever.

Chorus:
For you are good, for you are good.
For you are good to me.
For you are good, for you are good.
For you are good to me.

I cry out for your hand of mercy to heal me.
I am weak, I need your love to free me.
Oh Lord, my rock, my strength in weakness.
Come rescue me, oh Lord.
You are my hope, your promise never fails me.
And my desire is to follow you forever.

Chorus (2x)

Unison Prayer of Turning to God
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought,
word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength.
We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive
what we have been, help us amend what we are, and
direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will
and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Jesus Messiah
He became sin, who knew no sin
That we might become His righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross

Love so amazing, love so amazing

Chorus:
Jesus Messiah, name above all names
Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
His body the bread, his blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn

Love so amazing, love so amazing

Chorus

All our hope is in You
All our hope is in You
All the glory to You, God
The Light of the world

Jesus Messiah, name above all names
Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

Scripture— Matthew 5:1-12 and Philippians 3:7-14

Sermon
Rev. Patrick Vaughn

Sacred Silence

Thy Mercy My God
Thy mercy my God is the theme of my song,
the joy of my heart, and the boast of my tongue.
Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last,
hath won my affection and bound my soul fast.

Without thy sweet mercy, I could not live here.
Sin would reduce me to utter despair.
But through thy free goodness, my spirit's revived
and he that first made me still keeps me alive.

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart,
which wonders to feel its own hardness depart.
Dissolved by thy goodness, I fall to the ground,
and weep for the praise of the mercy I've found.

Great Father of mercies, thy goodness I own
in the covenant love of thy crucified Son.
All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine
seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine.
All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine
seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine.

Prayers of the People & The Lord's Prayer

*Closing Song:

Mighty to Save
Everyone needs compassion
Love that's never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations

Chorus:
Savior He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrender

Chorus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing
For the glory of the risen King
Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing
For the glory of the risen King

Chorus

Shine your light and let whole world see
We're singing
For the glory of the risen King
Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing
For the glory of the risen King
